request more informationMaintaining a balanced ecosystem in a lake is crucial, and a diverse and healthy fish population plays an important role in this. Pond Science will evaluate your needs and create a fish stocking plan tailored to your lake. Native fish species commonly used for stocking Florida lakes include largemouth bass, bluegill, catfish, tilapia and mosquito fish (gambusia).
The best time to stock fish is in the spring or early fall, when water oxygen levels are higher. These seasons are generally the most favorable for stocking fish as the weather is mild and the water temperature is ideal, making the transportation and acclimation process easier for the new fish.
All fish from the hatchery will be fingerling size unless specified otherwise. The fingerlings will be delivered in large plastic bags, and we will acclimate them before releasing them into your lake.

Triploid Grass Carp can be an effective solution for managing issues with submersed aquatic vegetation, specifically invasive, exotic species such as hydrilla, which do not have any natural predators in Florida.
However, it's important to note that plants are a natural part of Florida lakes and aquatic vegetation provides areas used for feeding, reproduction, and shelter for numerous species of fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds. Fisheries biologists recommend 30 to 50 percent plant coverage as a healthy balance.
If your pond has less than this, it may not be a problem. We can help you assess if you have a plant issue and provide recommendations on appropriate stocking quantities for your pond.
