Aesthetic Values
Each pond plant, aquatic or bog, has it’s own special aesthetic appeal and when they are arranged in an ‘aquascape’ they add a lot of aesthetic appeal to the landscape. Starting in the buffer zone cord grass has a delicate look, but its clumps are large enough to make a definite design statement.
The pond plant Iris is prized for its magnificent blue to purple flowers. Cypress add height to the landscape and grow into a majestic tree. Canna is a showy perennial which adds color to the native water garden especially when it is combined with the purple-flowered pickerelweed.
Giant bulrush and Fire flag with heights of over 5 feet add a vertical dimension to the shoreline. The beautiful and fragrant white water lily is prized for water gardens. This plants list only touches some of the abundant aesthetically appealing native, aquatic bog pond plants.
